Hello, my name is Michele and I am an Amazon Prime addict.
This is how I feel every time I open Amazon on my computer, OR on my tablet, OR on my phone. Let’s just say I check the site regularly. So when I saw Amazon Prime Now was finally available in my neighborhood I had to try it!
My Amazon Prime membership is the best money I spend every year and I am constantly finding new perks it has to offer! Like photo storage, movies, & music. And of course, the ability to have most items shipped to my house with free two-day shipping, and in some cases free next day shipping has made life much easier.
This habit increased dramatically when R arrived. The ease of ordering baby items, gifts, and household items online saved me from the hassle of going to the store as a new mom. Plus I saved money by not making impulse purchases in the store.
Looking on Amazon first has become my norm and if they don’t have it, it probably didn’t exist. Or so I tell myself. If you haven’t tried Amazon Prime you can test it out for 30 days at no cost! Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial
TIP: I highly recommend having Prime or the trial for the holiday season to save yourself on shipping!
Why you should try Amazon Prime Now
Some days going to the store just isn’t a possibility with two small children.
We had one of those days yesterday where everyone woke up in a mood (including myself). The plan was to go to the grocery store but we just couldn’t get it together. The toddler didn’t want breakfast, I didn’t have patience, and the baby was on the verge of a huge poop. It wasn’t smart to try and run an errand with this volatile situation bubbling at the surface.
On a day like this, a service that delivers the necessities is a gift from the gods, the Amazon gods. Even if I’m paying slightly more it is worthwhile not to have to go to the store or have my hubby stop on his way home from work.
Which as you know is one of the worst calls a husband receives when he’s left work. “Hey babe, I know you had a hard day pretending you like people and doing mind-numbing work but now I need you to stop at the grocery store with everyone and their mother to pick up milk, eggs, and diapers. You don’t mind do you?”
So of course, when I saw an advertisement for $10 off my first order using Amazon Prime Now I had to check it out! (Enter 10Primenow at checkout)
Back to what I was saying…
Having an option of delivering groceries available for such a minimal cost is great and can help marriages;)
TIP: Just be aware of the prices you normally pay at your grocery store or pharmacy. I suggest checking their weekly ad and managers specials sections first. When I did this I found that LaCroix seltzer cans were cheaper than the sale my grocery store has usually. Knowing your prices will let you make sure you don’t pay a ridiculous amount for basic items.
How the order went
I ordered some necessities like milk, chips, and carrots. We are never without these items and our supply was getting dangerously low. God forbid we don’t have milk for the toddler when she wakes up from nap! She would shrivel up and die.
Just to see how quick they were I choose the quickest delivery time possible. I placed the order at 5 pm and it arrived at 7:45. That is quick! And I had the critical items before breakfast the following day. I was shocked to see that I could have picked a delivery time that went as late as midnight.
Hubby was confused and asked if I was expecting a delivery as he let the man in. As the Amazon delivery man left Hubby asked what I ordered. Of course, due to Mom Brain, my answer was I don’t remember since it was a couple of hours ago.
As Hubby opened the bags, he commented how impressed he was that Amazon just delivered us groceries. As he looked up from emptying the bag he saw my face and told me not to look at him like that. He knew the look. It was the now that I got away with ordering groceries once, I’m doing it again and again look. You know the one. You’ve done a similar one I’m sure.
Prime Now – Pros and Cons
The Best Ways to use Amazon Prime Now
Since you need to add a tip to the cost of the order, this is not going to replace all last minute shopping trips. BUT there are definitely situations where you can justify the added expense for the convenience.
I plan to use Amazon Prime Now for these situations. (and these situations only!)
Do it! DO IT NOW!
Just don’t rely on it to replace your weekly shop. They don’t offer that many items and some of the items cost much more than the grocery store. That’s what Walmart grocery pickup service is for anyways! (which you can read about here).
